5 Days Birdwatching Tour From Marrakech

Your birding adventure kicks off with a warm welcome in Marrakech, followed by a scenic drive into the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains toward Oukaimeden, perched at 2,600 meters. As we wind our way past terraced fields and traditional villages, you'll begin spotting an exciting variety of resident birds look out for the Southern Gray Shrike, Little Owl, Sardinian Warbler, and the  Moussier’s Redstart. Today, we trade the towering peaks of the High Atlas for the fresh sea breeze of the Atlantic Coast as we journey to Agadir. Our main goal is to explore the coastline near one of the world’s largest colonies of the critically endangered Bald Ibis a true highlight for any birdwatcher. 

As we travel, we’ll also be on the lookout for coastal and scrubland species such as Audouin’s Gull, Zitting Cisticola, the elusive Spectacled Warbler, and the beautifully marked Barbary Partridge. And of course, keep an eye out for the striking Moussier’s Redstart making another appearance. After a rewarding day of birding along the Atlantic, we’ll settle into our hotel in Agadir, ready for more coastal discoveries tomorrow.

We kick off the day early with a thrilling visit to Sous Massa National Park along Morocco’s Atlantic Coast, a true haven for bird lovers. This biodiverse reserve offers the chance to spot some of the region’s most elusive species, including the secretive Black-crowned Tchagra, graceful Marbled Duck, Ruddy Shelduck, Purple Heron, and the charming Little Bittern.

As we explore further, we head to the Oued Massa, where the wetlands come alive with  birdlife expect to see Flamingos wading in the shallows, Stone Curlews blending into the terrain, and impressive gatherings of gulls and terns. If conditions allow, we’ll even try our luck at spotting the rare and nocturnal Red-necked Nightjar. After a full day immersed in Morocco’s coastal birding treasures, we return for a well-earned rest and overnight stay.

We’ll set off early this morning, heading north from Agadir for a day packed with coastal birding highlights. Our first stop is Cap Rhir, a fantastic spot for a seawatch where we’ll keep our eyes on the horizon for shearwaters and skuas slicing through the waves. From there, we continue to the renowned Oued Tamri, a must-visit site and home to one of the world’s largest colonies of the endangered Northern Bald Ibis. 

We’ll spend quality time here to maximize our chances of seeing these rare birds up close, often from the comfort of the vehicle, perfect for capturing some stunning photos. Along the way, we may also encounter Audouin’s Gull, the cheerful Zitting Cisticola, the elusive Barbary Partridge, and the striking Moussier’s Redstart. After a memorable day surrounded by Morocco’s coastal avian gems, we’ll return to Agadir for the night.

After a final breakfast together, and depending on your flight schedule, we might squeeze in one last birding adventure giving you a final chance to soak up Morocco’s    birdlife before heading to the airport.
