Itinerary
Get ready for an unforgettable birding adventure as we begin our 10 Days Birding Tour Atlas Mountains from Marrakech, driving up into the majestic High Atlas Mountains.
Along the way, we’ll pass through fertile fields, home to a variety of resident species, including the Southern Grey Shrike, Little Owl, Sardinian Warbler, Spotless Starling, Moroccan Magpie, Moussier’s Redstart, and House Bunting.
As we ascend higher, the rocky slopes will reveal even more exciting bird watching opportunities, where we’ll search for the stunning Blue Rock Thrush and the rare, endemic Levaillant’s Green Woodpecker. Reaching the ski resort at Oukaimeden, we’ll scan the snowline for the striking African Crimson winged Finch.
while also keeping an eye out for Rock Sparrows, Black Wheatears, Alpine Choughs, and the hardy Atlas Horned Lark. With each stop offering something new, this is a bird watching experience you won’t want to miss!
We'll bid farewell to the mountains and continue our 10 Days Birding Tour Atlas Mountains, possibly stopping once more to catch a glimpse of the elusive Levaillant’s Green Woodpecker. Our adventure takes us through the vast, flat plains of Marrakech before we begin our ascent once again, heading toward Boumalne du Dades via the breathtaking Tizi n Tichka pass, standing at a towering 2260 meters.
Along this long and scenic drive, we’ll have the chance to search for the rare Tristram’s Warbler, an endemic species that requires specific habitats, making it a thrilling find for any birdwatcher.
As we climb into the hills, the skies may reveal magnificent raptors, such as the Long legged Buzzard or Bonelli’s Eagle, both of which are possible sightings.
Before arriving in Boumalne du Dades, we'll make a stop in Amerzgane to search for the elusive Maghreb Wheatear a rare and remarkable species that’s sure to be a highlight of our 10 Days Birding Tour Atlas Mountains. With each turn of the road, the landscape and birdlife only become more captivating.
We’ll start our day early as we head to the renowned Tagdilt Track, one of the premier birding spots in southern Morocco. This area offers excellent opportunities to spot a variety of unique species, including the striking Red rumped Wheatear, the charming Thekla Lark, and the elusive Trumpeter Finch.
We’ll also be on the lookout for Temminck’s Lark, Short toed Lark, and the nomadic Thick billed Lark, all of which thrive in this diverse habitat. If the weather permits, we’ll enjoy this bird watching paradise for the majority of the day, exploring its vast terrain.
Our next stop will take us to a rocky canyon, where we’ll search for the Maghreb Wheatear, Desert Lark, and, if we're lucky, the Pharaoh Eagle Owl. Along the way, we’ll observe the unique lifestyle of the local people, living in caves surrounded by flocks of sheep and goats, adding a touch of cultural charm to this already unforgettable birding adventure.
Our adventure continues with a visit to the breathtaking Todra Gorge, where towering cliffs create the perfect backdrop for spotting Tristram’s Warbler, Black Wheatear, Blue Rock Thrush, Rock Dove, and the acrobatic Crag Martinperhaps even a soaring Bonelli’s Eagle if luck is on our side.
As we journey eastward, we’ll pause at a scrub filled wadi, an ideal spot to search for the shy and elusive Scrub Warbler. This stop may also reward us with sightings of the Thick billed Lark and the colorful Trumpeter Finch.
With our binoculars full of memories and our cameras bursting with rare moments, we’ll end the day by arriving at our welcoming desert hotel, where we’ll settle in for two nights of comfort and anticipation for what the next desert dawn may bring.
Today promises a more laid back yet equally thrilling birding adventure as we set off by 4×4 to explore the vast sandy dunes and rugged stony desert surrounding Erg Chebbi Morocco’s largest and most iconic dune system.
As we navigate this mesmerizing landscape, we’ll be on the lookout for some of the desert’s most fascinating birdlife, including the intelligent Brown necked Raven, the flute like calls of the Hoopoe Lark, and the elusive Desert Sparrow.
We'll continue our search for the African Desert Warbler, Desert Lark, and the expertly camouflaged Bar tailed Lark, each a unique gem of the desert landscape. The social Fulvous Babbler may make an appearance alongside the striking Spotted and Crowned Sandgrouse. And if we're lucky, the mysterious Egyptian Nightjar might reward us with a rare sighting, capping off an unforgettable day of desert birding.
Today marks our scenic 10 Days Birding Tour Atlas Mountains from Merzouga to Ouarzazate, taking us through the dramatic landscapes of the Anti Atlas Mountains.
As we wind through this rugged terrain of volcanic cliffs, deep gorges, and rocky hills, we’ll keep our eyes peeled for roadside sightings of White crowned Wheatear and the striking Southern Grey Shrike. The drive itself is a visual treat, but the birding opportunities don’t end there.
Before reaching our hotel in Ouarzazate, we’ll make an exciting stop at the Mansour Eddahbi Barrage, a haven for waterbirds. Here, we may encounter Ruddy Shelduck, elegant Black winged Stilts, and the elusive Maghreb Lark. Cormorants, Herons, and a delightful mix of waders are also likely to appear, rounding off a rich and rewarding day of birdwatching across varied Moroccan habitats.
Today, we set off on a scenic westward journey that takes us across the striking landscapes of the Anti Atlas Mountains and into the fertile Souss Valley, eventually reaching the coastal city of Agadir.
As we travel, we’ll keep our binoculars ready for roadside sightings of various larks and wheatears, which often grace the rocky terrain and open fields along our route. The changing scenery offers not just a visual feast but also exciting chances to spot birdlife in transit.
After soaking in the dramatic vistas and perhaps a few spontaneous birding stops, we’ll arrive in Agadir, our base for the next three nights ready to explore the rich birding treasures that await along Morocco’s Atlantic coast.
our birding adventure continues northward along Morocco’s scenic Atlantic coast. Our first stop is a lively beach where we’ll scan the shoreline for a mix of gulls, including the striking Audouin’s Gull, Yellow legged Gull, and both subspecies of the Lesser Black backed Gull. From there, we venture further up to the coastal fields and scrublands of Tamri, a vital stronghold for the critically endangered Northern Bald Ibis.
With a bit of luck and patience, we may witness these majestic birds foraging in their natural habitat. As the sun begins to dip, we make our way back to Agadir, reflecting on a day filled with rare sightings and coastal charm.
Today begins with an early start as we head south of Agadir to the renowned Oued Massa along the Atlantic coast, a true haven for birdwatchers. In this rich wetland and scrubland environment, we’ll search for some of Morocco’s most iconic and elusive species. Keep your binoculars ready for the secretive Black crowned Tchagra, the graceful Marbled Duck, and the Moussier’s Redstart.
We may also encounter Sardinian Warbler, Little Owl perched quietly among the ruins, Moroccan Cormorant, Glossy Ibis wading in the shallows, Stone Curlew, Laughing Dove, and the agile Brown throated Martin darting overhead.
Later in the day, we’ll make our way to the Oued Souss estuary, a superb location to observe flocks of flamingos, a variety of shorebirds, and an impressive gathering of roosting gulls and terns. It’s a day of spectacular coastal birding in two of Morocco’s finest wetland habitats.
Today marks our scenic journey from Agadir back to Marrakech, winding through the dramatic landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains. Along the way, we’ll make a few pleasant stops to stretch, soak in the views, and maybe even catch a few final glimpses of Morocco’s birdlife. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in the city of Marrakech, where the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy at your own pace.
Take the opportunity to explore the magical old quarter and enjoy the unforgettable atmosphere of Jemaa el Fna square, a living stage of Moroccan culture where snake charmers perform, water sellers parade in traditional garb, and the scent of spices fills the air.
